01-20-12 Day 20

I have a lot of pictures to share today! Michael got his cast today too.

We woke up and went to his Doctors appointment, just Michael and I, while Dada and Jace stayed home. It was raining out, which Michael enjoyed. So we got to the doctors and Michael was amazing! He didn't cry, or squirm or anything! He did ask if we were done so we could go bye bye though. Everyone loved him and thought he was adorable. The doctor said that she sees this kind of break a lot, but mostly in kids around 5-6 years old, she said that it's understandable though doing what he did to get a broken arm. The nurse who put his cast on said she had 2 boys of her own and nothing surprised her any more. I laughed a little, because I know I shouldn't be surprised by anything that Michael can do anymore either.

When we left, they gave him a sucker, and we went to the pharamcy downstairs to buy something for him to wear over his cast in the water. We then went through a drive thru to get Michael some chicken strips and fries for being so amazing at the doctors!

Michael has color tabs for his bath. The container comes with red, blue and yellow for him to choose from. I always let him pick two tabs to put in his bath while I'm getting the water ready.  Tonight he chose two red tabs, which make the water pink rather than red, but we go with it. It's fun for all of us, and it helps him to learn colors all at once!

Halfway through the bath, he decided he'd much rather have a shower, so on came the water! Here he is drinking it although I kind of think it looks like he's singing. Either way he loves it!

01-18-12 Day 18

Compared to the last 2 days, today was a relatively good day! Here's some fun silly pictures of Michael and I, and a cute picture of Jace. Obviously Mike took the pictures of Michael and I.

01-17-12 Day 17

Ugh, another long night/day!  Last night around 10 pm, Mike was sitting in the dining room going through his Magic cards. Jace and I were on Mike's computer as mine decided to rear the ugly virus that has been on my computer for a while now. Mike had started a scan on my computer and mine would be out of commission for a while. Mike started talking about how bad his stomach was suddenly cramping, then not long after he bolted for the bathroom. Mike was violently sick.

A little while later after realizing that Mike was really sick and not getting better any time soon, I called Missy and asked her what she was doing. She wasn't really doing much, and she agreed to come stay the night at our house to help me with my 3 boys. I knew I wouldn't make it with Mike being so very sick every 20 minutes, Jace having thrush and needing medicine every 2 hours and Michael sleeping with a broken arm. What was I to do if two of them needed help at the same time?

So, I went and picked Missy up, then we went to Wal-Mart to get Mike some requested Pepto-Bismal. Missy if you are reading this, thank-you again for being there for me. I wouldn't have made it. Mike was sick just about every 20 minutes on the dot for the next 14 hours. Once in a while he was okay a tad longer, but not very often. Missy and I stayed up late, and our friend Seth stopped by to keep Missy and I company for a little bit as we strived to stay awake (or as I strived to stay awake). I went to bed for a little while, while Missy took care of Jace and helped Mike (I believe around 7 in the morning, but I can't remember) and then when she was leaving for school she called her mom for me to ask if she could come over and help.

Lori showed up later that morning and helped to take care of an awake Michael, a little Jace, and Mike when he need it. I laid back down in bed after showing her where a couple of things were, just in case, and passed out. When I got up, Missy was bringing me a very hungry Jace (he prefers to breastfeed than to eat from a bottle, which I love most of the time, but sometimes... I wouldn't mind if he'd take a bottle) and Lori and John had taken Michael home with them to watch for the day as Mike and I caught up on sleep.

Later that evening after everything was looking good, and Michael was going to be brought home soon, Missy and I rushed to Baskin Robins to pick up an ice cream cake for Lori. It was her birthday and we hadn't been able to celebrate at all. We got back to the house as they were getting out of the truck.

Everyone had some rushed cake, and Missy got a ride home with her parents as they left. She said she'd shower and would come back over to help me again. I got everyone in bed, and realized, that this could be an almost normal night! I was going to call Missy to let her know that she could stay home and sleep, but I couldn't find my phone. Later, she gave up waiting on me, and tried to call me as it wasn't usual for me to not reply to a text message for something planned. Thankfully, when she called me I was able to find my phone. It was on the floor under the couch.

Lori's yummy chocolate chip ice cream cake. The best part of the whole day I think...
I let her know we could sleep, and headed to bed. Not long later though, Michael threw up. Mike put the blankets in the wash, while I cleaned Michael, the bed frame and the wall up. He threw up twice more all within an hour, but after that he slept all night.

01-16-12 Day 16

What a day! More precisely, what a night! Last night, I was making grilled cheese sandwiches and Mike was playing with Michael in his room. They were playing horsey and Dada had Michael on his back riding him around the room. Michael was carrying his microphone toy and tossed it. He decided it was a great idea to dive after it off of Dada. Well, that wasn't such a good idea because he fell off Dada and landed on his hands and knees.

(also I didn't mention on here, but on the 10th I accidentally gave Michael a nursemaids elbow... we were struggling with each other, I tried to put him on time out and he didn't want to go. I was trying to keep him from hitting his head as he threw himself and between the two of us we dislocated his elbow. He popped it back in while we were waiting to be seen in urgent care though.)

So what happened when he landed on his hands and knees? He hurt the same arm that he got the nursemaids elbow with. He cried, not just an owie I hurt cry that lasts a couple minutes and he gets back up and runs around again (which happens to some of the most painful looking things that get both Dada and I cringing) but one of the worse cries that a parent could ever have to listen to coming from their child.

I yelled at Mike from the kitchen asking if Michael was okay or not, figuring he might have jarred his elbow again as we were to watch for it being painful. Mike didn't reply and my asking got more frantic as I was handling the grilled cheese. I didn't bolt for Michael only because Mike was in there with him and I knew that for a fact. He finally said he didn't know and I turned off the skillet and bolted in there after making sure Jace was safe and sound in his bassinet.

When I got in there, Mike was sitting on the floor with Michael sitting in his lap crying and holding his arm again. We waited a couple of minutes as we talked about it to see if Michael would stop crying or if we needed to take him back to urgent care. As Michael looked to be in genuine pain, and not just an "I hurt my sore elbow a little bit again" pain we bolted to take Michael to the Urgent Care again. I gathered a couple of things to make our stay there a tad more comfortable than it was last time. I bagged some Cheerios for Michael, luckily I had just made Jace a bottle before this all happened and I got all the necessities for two dirty butts.

We got to Urgent Care, got signed in and waited. Luckily for us, Tangled was playing on the t.v. That is one of Michael's favorite movies, and it was easy to keep him calm. When we went back we told the person who saw us what happened and she sent us to the E.R. to get an X-Ray. I'll say I wasn't very happy with her because she told us that kids this age are manipulative and he might be playing us from his last injury. Lady, we know our son. He can be manipulative for all kinds of things that he wants, such as any kind of cookie, candy or anything to do with water, but he's one tough kid and he brushes off pain like no other. Aside from that, he hates nurses/doctors based on the sole fact that almost every time he's seen one lately he's been poked with a needle or had his owie touched. This was the last place he wanted to be.

So we got to go to the E.R. and wait to be seen for his X-Ray. Neither Urgent Care, nor the Emergency Room felt very urgent as we had to wait forever to be seen in both places. We finally got called back and Mike went into the X-Ray room with Michael, while I stood outside the door with Jace. I listened to Michael cry out in pain as they moved his poor little arm to X-Ray it. It broke my heart not being able to comfort him. When Michael and Dada came out we left and went back to Urgent Care.

When we were seen again, we were told that there wasn't a radiologist available to read the X-Ray and as far as she could tell, his arm looked funny, but it didn't look broken. We were to go home, and the radiologist would call us if there was different news when they got in.

We left, went home and went to bed. It was well past midnight and we had left our phones at home. We notified family about what happened and went to bed. When we woke up that morning Mike had me call Urgent Care to find out about the X-Rays. While we were waiting, Michael was walking through the living room and fell. He had a bottle in his good hand, so he didn't catch himself and fell right on his bad arm/face. Poor boy hurt himself again, it's so hard to see your little one in so much pain and not be able to fix it for them.

The radiologist called back and told me that Michael had a fracture and needed to go back to the E.R. to get it looked at. I told him about Michael's trip and he said to let them know because they might want to re-X-Ray his arm. And they did. (Nana and Aunt Minnie showed up and waited took care of Jace while we took care of Michael) This time, I went in with him. He sat on my lap and while we X-Rayed his left arm, he had his right arm wrapped up from under my chin to the back of my neck in a big embrace. I held him close and as carefully as I could I helped them do more X-Rays. He didn't cry as much as he did the first time, and he did a good job.

We were sent to a room to wait in and we waited again for what felt like forever. We had to hold Michael down to get medicine in him, because he remembered he didn't like the taste of it last night. Finally, we were told that he had a Supracondylar Fracture in his Humerus and that they were going to splint it. They made an appointment for us to see an Orthopedic Dr for Friday. We were all angry that he had to go for 5 days without a cast! They splinted his arm and we went home.

Playing with Mama's computer even though he's not supposed to.

Eating ice cream after dinner. I put a cut up sock over his splint so it wouldn't get messy.

01-15-12 Day 15

This morning we went to the Simpson Lane Auction with Mike's parents. It's not an auction where you bid on things or anything like that. It's basically a big giant yard sale for bunches of people in one place. We browsed around, but it wasn't that enjoyable due to the wind. The wind blew lots of dirt and I could barely see.

Afterwards we were all hungry though so we went to lunch at IHOP.

01-14-12 Day 14

Today Michael and I went shopping. We went to Sam's Club then we went to Walmart. I bought Michael a giant Mickey Mouse and Friends coloring book with some washable crayons and we colored for a little bit when we got home. I later invited Missy over for dinner, and she also colored with Michael. I wanted so badly to take a picture of them both laying on the their tummies on the floor in my den just coloring away, but I was feeding Jace. It was adorable though watching them color. I didn't get any pictures of Michael today, but I did get one of Jace sleeping next to the sea horse toy that was Michael's.

Jace, much like Michael doesn't like the pacifier. This is one of the rare occasions that he actually used one.

As I sat down at my computer, to see how it was doing (yesterday my virus that I had a while ago and never got fixed completely, it showed up again) Pandora decided that it was a great time to sit right in front of my face. This is quite literally the view I had sitting at my desk. I love all the reflections in her eyes. The blue light is the t.v. behind me. Behind her is my computer monitor.
